About NARI

The Nikkei Advertising Research Institute (NARI) has operated for over 40 years as an unbiased advertising research body. Its members include leading advertiser corporations, advertising agencies, production companies, research companies, newspaper and magazine publishers, broadcasters, and other entities with connections to advertising. Guest lecturers are researchers not only from advertising and marketing but also from the social sciences and many other fields, who engage in impartial research activities together with NARI’s own researchers. NARI is active in research, surveys, publications and various other activities having to do with advertising. In 1989, NARI was awarded the Shirakawa Shinobu Award by the Tokyo Advertising Association for its contributions to the development of the advertising industry.
Our research activities involve studies that we conduct, with guest researchers acting as lead researchers, into ways of dealing with the issues faced by advertising today. We also actively address new topics in the field.
As part of our business activities, we have been offering a general course on the theory and practice of advertising every year since our founding and holding seminars and symposiums to announce survey and research findings.
NARI’s publication activities include publishing and sending to its members the Bulletin of Nikkei Advertising Research Institute (published bimonthly), which reports on research findings and carries papers written by researchers and business people, and the NARI Report (published monthly), reporting on the latest developments in the advertising industry and the activities of NARI. Publications such as Advertising Expenditure of Leading Corporations, Advertising Whitepaper and the General Course on Advertising appear yearly, as do books and reports about NARI’s research and on issues and problems in the industry.
Employing the research methodologies and research and analysis experience accumulated through our various study groups, we also undertake delegated surveys related to advertising.
We will be working on improving network communications through our website and other media, and in particular our data service for members.
Through collaboration with advertising-related bodies in the United States, Europe and Korea, we also intend to be active participants in expanding the global reach of advertising research in order to provide our members with the latest news from other countries and to communicate with our foreign counterparts.
